Now, here&rsquo;s what&rsquo;s happening around the water cooler this week&hellip;
<h2 class="subhead nbp">The Water Cooler &mdash; Upcoming Events and More</h2>
Last Thursday, Apple released its latest earnings report. The numbers showed lower product sales and income.
And that&rsquo;s not the only trouble at the company. While <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/buy-this-ai-underdog-today">we had high hopes for its Apple Vision Pro</a>, the company is <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/23/24138487/apple-vision-pro-cut-shipment-forecast-kuo-rumor">slowing down production due to low demand</a>.
Then there&rsquo;s the fact that Apple is still lagging in the artificial intelligence (AI) race. Once a dominant tech player, it&rsquo;s now playing catch-up to rivals like Microsoft Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/MSFT">MSFT</a>) and Alphabet Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/GOOG">GOOG</a>).
You&rsquo;d think all this would be enough to sink Apple&rsquo;s share price.
Instead, the stock jumped $10 after the news came out&hellip; and is less than $15 away from hitting a brand-new all-time high.
That&rsquo;s mostly because Apple announced a massive share buyback program &mdash; planning to spend $110 billion to reduce the supply of its stock in the markets. That naturally makes each remaining share more valuable.
But it&rsquo;s not necessarily a good thing.
&ldquo;It is destructive to shareholder value,&rdquo; says our Dan Amoss. He points out that with high interest rates, Apple has to borrow money at 5%, then buy back shares that have a 2-3% free cash flow yield.
In other words, Apple is essentially losing money on every share it takes out of the markets.
Byron King agrees. Buying back shares &ldquo;takes company cash and pays it out to people who want to sell their stakes,&rdquo; he says.
&ldquo;Apple has nothing better to do with that money?&rdquo; he asks. &ldquo;No research and development? No growth projects?&rdquo;
Bob Byrne, one of James Altucher&rsquo;s top analysts, also thinks there are better uses for Apple&rsquo;s money.
&ldquo;Apple&rsquo;s topline revenue hasn&rsquo;t moved much in three years,&rdquo; he tells us. &ldquo;The company needs something to get things moving.&rdquo;
The good news is that Apple still has a ton of cash in the bank &mdash; even with its ill-advised buyback plans.
So our team is looking for smaller companies that Apple might team up with&hellip; or buy out altogether.
We think the company&rsquo;s management will hold off any announcements until mid-June, which gives you a window to position yourself before the news comes out.
Expect more details as we dig deeper into the impending catalysts
You might also have a chance to ride Apple shares higher, too &mdash; at least for a little while.
As our Alan Knuckman points out, Apple&rsquo;s price chart is showing signs of a &ldquo;bullish divergence.&rdquo;
He calls it a &ldquo;signal of internal shift,&rdquo; meaning bulls look ready to start buying again.
While that doesn&rsquo;t necessarily mean you should expect long-term gains from the stock, it could be an opportunity to collect shorter-term gains using call options.

Is Apple a Buy?

Nvidia Corp. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/NVDA">NVDA</a>) continues to be one of the hottest stocks on Wall Street&hellip;
But its reign will soon come to an end.

Now, here&rsquo;s what&rsquo;s happening around the water cooler this week&hellip;
<h2 class="subhead">The Water Cooler &mdash; Upcoming Events and More</h2>
Nvidia has been the darling of Wall Street&rsquo;s AI boom &mdash; up a stunning 216% in the past year alone.
Now the stock is surging again, thanks to Facebook, Google and others announcing even more AI spending.
The reason Nvidia dominates AI is because of InfiniBand, its ultra-fast data transfer system that&rsquo;s essentially what makes AI possible.
Nvidia got the technology by buying out a company called Mellanox in 2019.
&ldquo;Brilliant, brilliant acquisition,&rdquo; our Ray Blanco tells us.
However, Ray also says there&rsquo;s a new networking system on the horizon &mdash; one that&rsquo;s set to be just as fast, if not faster, than InfiniBand.
It&rsquo;s called Ultra Ethernet&hellip; and Nvidia has nothing to do with it!
Instead, the tech is being developed by the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC), made up of over 50 tech companies.
The roster includes tech giants like Microsoft Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/MSFT">MSFT</a>), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/AMD">AMD</a>), Cisco Systems Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/CSCO">CSCO</a>) &mdash; as well as many smaller names in the business.
&ldquo;An initial version of the new superfast standard is expected in the fourth quarter of this year,&rdquo; Ray tells us.
Once it&rsquo;s launched, Nvidia&rsquo;s near-monopoly on ultra-fast networking will end. Companies will suddenly have more choices when it comes to artificial intelligence applications.
Our team still believes Intel Corp. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/INTC">INTC</a>) is the <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/buy-this-ai-underdog-today">underdog to root for in this space</a>.
Not only is the company part of the UEC, but it&rsquo;s also still on track to create the world&rsquo;s most advanced microchips.
In fact, Microsoft has already placed an order to buy them for a very ambitious AI project.
&ldquo;It will be huge,&rdquo; Ray says, &ldquo;and will dwarf anything Microsoft &mdash; already a builder of massive data centers&mdash; has ever built before.&rdquo;
The chips won&rsquo;t be ready for a while, however, and impatient investors have pushed Intel&rsquo;s shares lower.
That could change once Ultra Ethernet is running &mdash; waking Wall Street up to what it means for Intel.
As Ray puts it, &ldquo;Nvidia is going to be left out in the cold.&rdquo;

What sector is the best to invest in for a 12-year-old kid so she can learn about investing?
Thanks for writing in, Rolando! I know you addressed this question to Zach, but I assume a lot of Paradigm Press members have similar questions. So I hope you don&rsquo;t mind that I shared it with the team.
Trading specialist Alan Knuckman offered his usual pragmatic view of the markets.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s more important how you invest than what you invest in,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;Have a money management plan in advance &mdash; knowing when to get out if things move in your favor or against you.&rdquo;
Once you lock down that discipline, you&rsquo;re ready to profit in &ldquo;any liquid market, any direction, any time frame.&rdquo;
Jim Rickards&rsquo; go-to analyst, Dan Amoss, suggests starting with retailers.
&ldquo;They are businesses that a 12-year-old knows and recognizes,&rdquo; Dan says. &ldquo;The notion that they buy products wholesale, hold them in inventory, and sell at a markup is easy to grasp.&rdquo;
That&rsquo;s important, Dan tells us, because &ldquo;learning how retail stocks create value will take a young student one step beyond the overly simplified Peter Lynch notion of &lsquo;buy what you like.&rsquo;&rdquo;
&ldquo;Plenty of people like Teslas,&rdquo; Dan explains, but the company&rsquo;s underlying fundamentals are just lousy.
And he&rsquo;s not the only person who suggests starting with retail. As a father of seven, Zach has some experience helping kids learn how to grow their money.
&ldquo;For kids &mdash; especially 12-year-olds,&rdquo; he says, &ldquo;it's all about helping them stay engaged, interested and helping them see the potential for profits over time.&rdquo;
Starting with a well-known name with a simple business model makes the first step easy. Then you can &ldquo;dive right into what it means to own a piece of the company.&rdquo;
He explains:
It's easy to talk about how Target Corp. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/TGT">TGT</a>) buys a thousand baseball gloves for maybe $15 each, then sells each one for a price near $25 &mdash; a net profit of $10. From there, you can explain that Target needs to rent its storefront, pay employees, keep its lights on and so forth. Eventually, you can even talk about retail companies going into debt to buy merchandise &mdash; and whether that's a wise decision or creates too much risk.

Baltimore&rsquo;s fallen Francis Scott Key bridge is still blocking vital ports. And while <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpkLrnyxZJI">we still don&rsquo;t know what caused a cargo ship</a> to plow into the bridges&rsquo; supports, we do know why it caused catastrophic damage&hellip;
The structures designed to protect the bridge haven&rsquo;t been updated since the 1970s &mdash; when cargo ships were much, much smaller.
Similar infrastructure problems plague the rest of the United States. Many of the systems we rely on for transportation&hellip; water&hellip; waste&hellip; power and more are decades old.
And they simply weren&rsquo;t built to withstand the demands of modern life.
Take the U.S. electric grid. As <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/suns-out-gigs-out">we talked about last week</a>, demand for electricity is poised to outstrip power companies&rsquo; ability to supply it.
But even if generating power keeps pace, there&rsquo;s still a question about how the electricity will get where it needs to go.
&ldquo;The majority of the nation&rsquo;s grid is aging,&rdquo; writes the American Society of Civil Engineers, &ldquo;with some components over a century old &mdash; far past their 50-year life expectancy &mdash; and others, including 70% of [transmission and distribution] lines, are well into the second half of their lifespans.&rdquo;
In other words, nearly every existing power line wasn&rsquo;t installed with today&rsquo;s electricity needs in mind.
Overloaded wires get hot and heavy, then start to sag.
Drooping power cables triggered a widespread blackout in 2003. They can also cause wildfires, like a 2017 blaze in California that killed four people.
The easiest and least expensive solution to this problem is called reconductoring. It simply replaces the current steel-and-aluminum wires with lighter, stronger materials that can handle more electricity.
As Byron King, our resident geologist and resource expert, explains, &ldquo;you can take the wires off the old pylons and put new wire on it &mdash; increasing your capacity by 40-50%.&rdquo;
And while the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act had <a href="https://dailyreckoning.com/first-down-payment-on-a-boondoggle/">a lot of problems</a>, it does mean there&rsquo;s money available to rewire parts of the grid.
The efforts should also continue no matter who wins the White House. In fact, don&rsquo;t be surprised if Donald Trump starts saying we need to &ldquo;make America young again.&rdquo;
The new power lines use more aluminum than current cables, which could be a boon to companies that mine and process the metal.
Rio Tinto (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/RIO">RIO</a>), for example, mines, smelts and recycles aluminum. So it can not only provide the aluminum for the new wires, but also reuse the aluminum found in the existing ones!
Meanwhile, aluminum prices are rising alongside every other metal &mdash; <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/dr-copper">like copper</a>.
And Rio Tinto produces that, too.
So it could be a key player in taking America&rsquo;s infrastructure into the future!

Most of your content is long-form boring video that takes forever to get to the point (when it gets to the point). Most of your emails are "pump-a-chump" schemes (stock pushing &amp; dumping for miniscule profits). Most of your emails &ldquo;piggyback&rdquo; on the "whitelisted From:" email addresses of your respected contributors. In general, I think your organization's email campaigns place you just barely above the ranks of ambulance-chasing third-rate lawyers. 
No one can accuse you of holding back, Jeff! I hope you don&rsquo;t mind me tackling this, since it really has nothing to do with Sean or Rude Awakening.
But it&rsquo;s interesting that your list ends with the word &ldquo;lawyers&rdquo; &mdash; because it ties directly into why our videos need to be as long as they are.
Remember, we&rsquo;re a small, independent financial publisher. Most people don&rsquo;t know us from Adam. So our analysts can&rsquo;t just start spouting predictions. Who would listen to a complete stranger offering financial advice?
Instead, our experts need to establish their credentials. They need to explain the research behind their predictions. They need to be sure you understand why they can guide you through what lies ahead.
Essentially, they need to make a case for why their research can benefit you.

In just a few hours, the moon will cross in front of the sun, creating a shadow across much of the United States.
And while it will <a href="https://altucherconfidential.com/posts/be-very-afraid-of-april-8">be an awesome sight to behold</a>, it will also put a strain on the nation&rsquo;s power grid.
It&rsquo;s pretty simple &mdash; reduced sunlight means reduced output from solar panels.&nbsp;
In fact, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, a total of <a href="https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61743">84.8 gigawatts of power generation</a> will be affected by the eclipse.
Keep in mind, a single gigawatt can power 750,000 homes. So we&rsquo;re talking about a disruption to the electricity used by 63.6 million homes.
Of course, the sun will only disappear for a few minutes &mdash; and only solar farms in the path of totality will be reduced to zero power.
More importantly, it&rsquo;s not like the eclipse is a surprise. Everyone knows when one is coming, so utilities have plenty of time to prepare.
In fact, many power utilities will turn to a fossil fuel to get them through the minutes of darkness &mdash; natural gas.
Utilities have long relied on natural gas to run generators during times of peak electricity demand.
Our team says natural gas will be even more important for the power grid in the months and years ahead.
That&rsquo;s because things like artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies require a LOT of electricity.
According to the International Energy Agency, global data centers could be sucking up more juice than the entire country of Japan in just two years.
The demand for power could outstrip supply &mdash; especially if the grid continues to rely on a source that shines for less than half a day.
And utilities have a huge incentive to use natural gas to bridge the gap.
While other commodity prices have boomed, says our Zach Scheidt, &ldquo;natural gas is as cheap as it was in 2020.&rdquo;
Now he&rsquo;s starting to see &ldquo;investment capital flow back into that area.&rdquo;
Trade analyst Alan Knuckman agrees a good play is developing. &ldquo;The risk-reward is definitely on natural gas&rsquo; side,&rdquo; he says.
You can find plenty of inexpensive natural gas producers and pipeline companies that will start trading higher as demand for their products inevitably heats up.
Energy giants like Exxon Mobil Corp. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/XOM">XOM</a>) and Shell plc (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/SHEL">SHEL</a>) &mdash; which are already benefiting from higher oil prices &mdash; have extensive natural gas operations, too.
So try to watch the eclipse today if you can. Then look into the companies that helped keep the lights on while everyone was looking up.

We had a tremendous number of responses to <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/thunderdome-gold-vs-bitcoin">last week&rsquo;s Bitcoin vs. gold survey</a>.
A lot of people were happy to take a side, letting us know exactly which asset they supported and why.
The reasons from each camp were pretty similar, too.
&ldquo;Gold is tangible and has a long history of worldwide recognition and acceptance,&rdquo; Kurt H. tells us. &ldquo;Nobody even knows how Bitcoin originated, and it can disappear in the blink of an eye.&rdquo;
Julian C. agrees: &ldquo;5,000 years of history doesn&rsquo;t disappear quickly.&rdquo; 
John A. says he likes gold because, &ldquo;I can hold it in my hand and there is absolutely no counterparty risk involved.&rdquo;
More than one person pointed out that Bitcoin depends on electricity. Lee D. sums up these arguments nicely: &ldquo;Bitcoin is toast without internet or power.&rdquo;
Bitcoin supporters were just as adamant.
Mart says that Bitcoin is &ldquo;more portable and divisible.&rdquo;
Chuck tells us Bitcoin has &ldquo;greater utility than gold [and is] cheaper to move.&rdquo; 
Kevin prefers the cryptocurrency simply because it offers &ldquo;rapid growth.&rdquo; 
Still, there was a clear winner in a purely head-to-head competition.
Gold garnered a full 34% of the vote. Bitcoin was chosen by just 13% of our members.
What really shocked me, however, was how many people voted for a third option.
Nearly half our members said &ldquo;both&rdquo;!
Pete likes the &ldquo;permanence of gold and flexibility of Bitcoin.&rdquo;
Wes tells us, &ldquo;I love the historical side of gold, but I also see the modern digital advantages of crypto.&rdquo; 
George O. says, &ldquo;I have both because I think that both are great assets for the long haul.&rdquo;
DJ explains, &ldquo;Gold is still the undisputed heavyweight champion. But Bitcoin is the middleweight champion and is still bulking up for a chance at the title. Soon&hellip;.&rdquo;
Plenty of folks in the &ldquo;Both&rdquo; camp made it clear they believe gold is superior, but think Bitcoin offers better short-term profit potential.
&ldquo;Bitcoin for speculation and trading, gold for wealth preservation,&rdquo; says a different George.
&ldquo;I like the upside potential of Bitcoin,&rdquo; agrees Ric R. &ldquo;These are just two of the items topping the greed meter at the moment. Gold is by far the safest.&rdquo;
It&rsquo;s great to know that so many members have open minds when it comes to Bitcoin and gold &mdash; and seem to have a good understanding of the risks vs. potential rewards.
Adopting that mindset will help you take advantage of the booming profit opportunities our team sees in both assets.
You can either invest in gold and Bitcoin directly, or target supporting markets that offer even bigger gains.

Finally for today, I want to address another complaint that we get fairly regularly.
Last week, Greg Guenthner told his Trading Desk members to sell their Block Inc. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/SQ">SQ</a>) call options for a 97% gain in less than two weeks. He also asked his members to share their personal results in a Google survey.
That didn&rsquo;t sit well with Mark M., who tells us:
I cannot take the survey. Will NOT deal with Google just to take a survey. Please eliminate that horrible thing. Thanks.
Thanks for writing in, Mark&hellip; and I hope you were still able to profit from Greg&rsquo;s recommendation!
As for Google, our response hasn&rsquo;t changed much since I dealt with a similar letter in the <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/rickards-on-israel">Reader Forum back in October</a>.
Paradigm Press is a relatively small, independent financial publisher. So we don&rsquo;t really have the resources to create and curate in-house surveys.
If we want large-scale insights into what our members are thinking, we need to work with a company that can gather and process all that information. And Google simply offers the easiest and most affordable way to do that.
Yes, the company is well-known for sifting through data to figure out the most effective ads to show you. But you can bet its competitors are doing the exact same thing, too.
That&rsquo;s why we limit the amount of personal information we ask for &mdash; usually just your name and email address. After that, you have complete control over how much you want to say.
Of course, you&rsquo;re also free to simply email your thoughts to me and our team. It&rsquo;s a lot more work, but it allows you to avoid Google altogether.

Back in early November, our team predicted that <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/its-unanimous-buy-this-now">gold looked ripe for a breakout</a>.
By the end of the year, the precious metal was setting new highs &mdash; and is looking to continue marching upwards.
Then in January, James Altucher told you why <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoY_UF_tbuc">Bitcoin was poised to take off</a>.
Just a few weeks later, the crypto&rsquo;s price was also setting new records&hellip; and is up 45% since James&rsquo; broadcast.
So I&rsquo;m very excited about the team&rsquo;s latest prediction&hellip; even though it&rsquo;s about one of the world&rsquo;s most boring metals &mdash;
Copper. 
It&rsquo;s a &ldquo;base metal,&rdquo; meaning it&rsquo;s too common to be considered precious. But it&rsquo;s also an essential raw material in a countless number of industries.
In fact, Wall Street calls it &ldquo;Dr. Copper&rdquo; because its price is such a reliable indicator of economic activity.
Now our technical analysts see a very interesting pattern developing in copper&rsquo;s price chart.
The metal is currently selling for $4.10 a pound&hellip; up 10% from where it was trading a month ago.
Just a little more momentum could send it skyrocketing even higher.
&ldquo;If it crosses $4.35 per pound,&rdquo; says our Alan Knuckman, &ldquo;we&rsquo;re looking at another buck higher from there.&rdquo;
That would be $5.35 a pound&hellip; putting the base metal in record territory.
The only problem is that there aren&rsquo;t a lot of easy copper plays for everyday investors.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a very concentrated market,&rdquo; says our Greg Guenthner, meaning there are very few mining companies that specialize in copper.
Of the few large pure plays, Greg likes Southern Copper Corp. (<a href="https://my.paradigmpressgroup.com/ticker/SCCO">SCCO</a>).
Its share price moves with copper&rsquo;s price, meaning it&rsquo;s set to move higher, too.
You can either buy the shares or consider trading call options on the stock.

A few readers singled out their favorite e-letters.

And, of course, there were some complaints&hellip;

We also had a few emails about the amount of email we send, <a href="https://concierge.paradigmpressgroup.com/post/buy-this-ai-underdog-today">which I addressed in a recent Reader Forum</a>.
Still, I&rsquo;d say the majority of the emails were from people eager to help us get better.
