I would like to see the team be more communicative with the losing trades. I'm no expert, but it seems that we want to minimize the loss on trades that go the wrong way…. Its crickets for commentary on these. Please have the team be more communicative sooner on the trades that are losing to close them out before the trade is a complete loss.
I understand your concern, Timothy. No one likes to lose money. It can be doubly frustrating when it seems like our analysts have gone silent on the matter.
Rest assured that our team takes money management and risk control very seriously. We don’t stick with a losing trade simply out of stubbornness or pride.
At the same time, it doesn’t make sense to sell everytime a stock or option’s price starts to fall. In fact, with today’s market volatility, there’s a very good chance prices will bounce the other way. So our analysts have to balance the odds of a turnaround against the risk of the asset ultimately going lower.
It’s particularly tricky with options, which have a very real chance of rebounding right before expiration.
And even if it doesn’t look like that will happen, it might still make sense to hold the option until expiration. That’s because brokers often charge you for options transactions, including selling your position. Those added fees will make the loss sting all the more.
We do try to be open and honest about our losses, though. And I’ll remind the team to keep our members in mind when it looks like a trade won’t go our way.
